Project: Top Down

After graduating from college, I set out to tackle a larger-scale project with the goal of seeing it through to completion by uploading it to the app store. This endeavor allowed me to gain a comprehensive understanding of taking a piece of software from start to finish while actively engaging with every stage of the development process. Once the app is on the store, I look forward to gathering user feedback to enhance my development skills and deepen my understanding of the industry.

In addition to the personal fulfillment of completing this project, I had the opportunity to learn advanced concepts typically covered in a four-year computer science degree. This included implementing search algorithms and gaining hands-on experience with various data structures and their corresponding algorithms. One aspect that particularly intrigued me was procedural generation, which I implemented to introduce fun replay value to each world and its levels.

Working on a project of this scale presented numerous challenges and opportunities for growth. There were moments when I embarked on development sprints unsure of how to tackle the issues at hand, such as designing a complex skill tree or solving AI and collision problems with enemies. Throughout these challenges, I remained persistent and committed to completing the project, which significantly contributed to the enhancement of my development and project management skills.

Project: Idle Clicker

This project was developed as a comprehensive learning tool to apply the concepts I was acquiring throughout my academic journey. With each semester, I integrated new knowledge from my programming, database, design and game development classes into the project. This iterative process not only reinforced my understanding of each subject but also allowed me to practically apply what I was learning, solidifying these concepts and techniques in my memory.

One key lesson from this project was the critical importance of a strong initial design document. A well-thought-out design plan sets the direction for the entire project, preventing the temptation to become overly ambitious by adding unnecessary features. This focus on the core product helps avoid straying from the project’s goals and ensures adherence to deadlines.

Through this experience, I have honed my ability to create successful and effective design documents. These documents serve as comprehensive frameworks that guide projects from inception to completion, ensuring they stay on track and achieve their intended outcomes
